Xtinct Birds ( Or very Nearly )

Swift Parrot

There are four birds that are on the endangered list that reside in this area, the most critical is the Swift Parrot. This parrot can be seen occasionally in the Chiltern Forest. However there is one on display in the Beechworth Museum.

Turquoise Parrot

Although very scarce, the Buller's Bird Park behind Buller's Winery in Rutherglen has some breeding pairs on display. There is also a preserved Turquoise Parrot at the Beechworth Museum.

Xtinct Tasmanian Tiger

There are two areas in this region that display a Tasmanian Tiger. One is at the Beechworth Museum, which has a preserved Tiger in a glass cage.

The other are some Aboriginal Drawings thought to be up to 3000 years old at Mt Pilot, between Chiltern and Beechworth. One drawing is of the Tasmanian Tiger.

Ned Kelly's Death Mask

This is a mask made of Ned Kelly's face after he was hung.

You may see this at the Beechworth Museum.

 

The First Woman Hung at Beechworth

Travel to the Beechworth Court House and hear tales and see the documents of the first woman to be put to death.
