YOU WROTE:
"FORBIDDEN You do not have permission to access/genealo/family.html/ on this server"
can you explain what this message means. As I am new to this.

Subscriber

ANSWER:
Basically it means the server you have contacted will not give you the page you want. It probably means the page has some restrictions on who is allowed to view it, or it could mean their server has been mis-configured or has a problem. The message you get back is generated by the site (server) you are trying to contact, so any problem reports will need to include the site (servers) address or name for any further investigation to be possible.

Dear Editor & Co,
Love the look of the newsletter, excellent format and is very user friendly, the only thing I could ask for is a quicker way of saving the articles rather than one by one...but I'm lazy and being picky!!!

ANSWER:
Oh boy! But a fair comment. I'll work on it and let you know ;-)

Dear Ed,
Win 98 DUN and the Internet Connection Wizard are certainly not easy to configure. Even though I can dial up, the connection fails after the stage "verifying password and username" with an error "unable to establish connection"
Fortunately TCP and Netscape 3.04 work well - tried and true under Win 3.11 and now Win98. The old Netscape 1.1 supplied with new ALI connections crashes often, and necessitates a 5.5MB download from your FTP site - 30 minutes.
Thanks for your invaluable cutting-edge newsletter Ross,

ANSWER:
The problem with the Win98 DUN is most likely the lack of a script (which you can get from here, or no Post Dial Terminal Window in your configuration. The instructions on setting up the 95 Dialler (including the changes in 98) is at http://www.albury.net.au/95/. This link will take you to the short text only version, and contains a link to the longer version which includes pictures and the 98 additions.
Keeping your Trumpet dialler and some small 16 bit programs is always a good insurance policy. They are so much easier to set up and they just keep working!

I've been offline for a while with a hard drive fail and I'm now back with 98. It has been an interesting exercise, it really appears to be no more than 95c,d or e but it works OK. The interesting thing is that the "Internet Connection Wizard" now works well, with a little tinkering and an adjustment or two in the DUN we were up and running!
Thanks for the good newsletter, can we download it as a whole, rather than viewing as individual pages?
Good news about the MtBeauty exchange too, I am pleased it is working well for you, it is for us
One more little note, my upgrade prompted me to call Symantec's support line regarding compatibility to 98, and I was told that a "live update" would fix any problems. I asked him what my options were if I didn't have Internet access and he said "isn't Internet access why you bought 98?" tough if you haven't got access was the basic response.
It seems that computers and the Internet are becoming one and the same.

About the newsletter ... I'm working on it. About computers and the Internet, we'd have to agree. Manufacturers and the commercial sector are pushing it (net connectivity) very hard.

(quote contributed from a public mailing list. If anyone knows the original author, we'd love to acknowledge him/her.)

THE PLAN

In the beginning was the PLAN. And then came the Assumptions. And the Assumptions were without form. And the Plan was without substance. And Darkness was upon the face of the Workers. And they spoke among themselves, saying "It is a crock of SHIT, and it stinketh."

And the Workers went unto their Supervisors and said "It is a pail of Dung, and none may abide the odor thereof."

And the Supervisors went unto their Managers, saying, "It is a container of excrement, and it is very strong, such that none may abide it."

And the Managers went unto their Directors, saying, "It is a vessel of fertilizer, and none may abide its strength."

And the Directors spoke amongst themselves, saying, "It contains that which aids plant growth, and it is very powerful."

And the Directors went unto the Vice Presidents, saying, "It promotes growth, and it is very potent."

And the Vice President went unto the President, saying, "This new Plan will actively promote the growth and vigor of the company, with powerful effects."

And the President looked upon the Plan and saw that it was good. And the Plan became POLICY.

This is how Shit Happens.
