Last Weeks Trail

I wasn't there, so I cannot tell you what happened, maybe, one day, the On Sec will feel like writing up a run, but, as it was her run, maybe she is too embarrassed. So, instead I will write up the run I did last week - Geelong H3's AGM & 20th Anniversary run.

The On On was from the Guild Clubrooms in Frier Reserve, Newtown. After the usual sort of pre-run instructions, the trail headed westerly along West Fyans St ... well, it should have, and did for most of the pack, but some had spotted trail elsewhere so headed south toward the river. Meanwhile ... the main pack, which were heading west, turned into Stinton St and headed uphill, seriously uphill, to Nicholas St. This had the affect of stringing out the pack, but this did not matter much as the pack split again, with about half the remaining pack following trail down a laneway between two streets whilst the remainder continued along Nicholas St and down Shannon Ave to re-combine with the other two portions at a Hash Halt at the lights on the corner of West Fyans St. and Shannon Ave.

When the pack had re-assembled, it was On On across the road and through the park before playing a game of Doggem Cars trying to cross Shannon Ave, so that we could get into the Balyangs Sanctuary and heading onto the island in the middle of the lake for a drink stop. Apparently, this sanctuary was the location for Geelong H3's very first AGM, 19 years ago.

Suitably quenched, it was On On, through the sanctuary and along the foreshore of the Barwon River, heading for Corio Bay, but we did not go quite that far, only as far as a pedistrian bridge at the end of Pakington St across the river. Here, a Hash Halt was called, with Port and Ice cream (in the one glass). It was at this spot, earlier this year, that the GM of Geelong Hash, Ankles suffered a heart attack whilst on a run and moved on to that Great Hash Trail in the Sky. There was a call for a minutes silence, but it was realised that silence at a Hash doo was near on impossible, so, instead, a Hash Song was sung to remember Ankles. Then, it was On On up the road and On Home.

After the pack had re-assembled at the On On, the Sergeant at Arms, an angry little ant if ever I've seen one, awarded Down Downs to almost all and sundry, before the new committee was announced with Dallas being the new Grand Mattress.

After a nosh of Chicken and salad, one of the Hashers got up to give his ghost call of the Melbourne Cup, populated by various Geelong H3 members, and after many goings on in the starting gates, the races was on and all present thought it Just that, after Ankles had been ridden into the dirt, he should rise from the dead to win the race.
